The Center is an unusual public/private partnership that functions as
the New York State Unified Court System's research and development arm.
It has been responsible for significant demonstration projects in the
area of problem-solving justice -- e.g., the Midtown Community Court,
the Red Hook Community Court, and pioneering mental health and domestic
violence courts. Its work has been widely recognized (e.g., the
Innovations in American Government Award from Harvard University).

"Arts as Activism" kicks off Anti-Poverty Week, an effort by Penn's
Civic House to raise awareness of the issues surrounding poverty. This
hour-long program will feature performances by members of the spoken
word poetry group *The Excelano Project*, an exhibition of
photojournalism by *Harvey Finkle*, and will begin a week-long
fund-raiser for *Project H.O.M.E.*, a nonprofit organization dedicated
to breaking the cycle of homelessness and poverty. Representatives of
many Civic House arts-based community service groups will also be
present to distribute literature and explain their own efforts to
address the many social issues facing Philadelphia today.**

*Atlantic Council: John A. Baker Internship Program* The John A. Baker
Internship Program offers 10 to 15 volunteer positions during the fall,
spring, and summer terms. Interns assist with Council projects, attend
briefings and seminars, and complete an independent research project.
These positions require a strong interest in international affairs,
Europe, security, event management, journalism and education. Applicants
should possess some administrative or office experience and be able to
work at least 3 full days per week. Course credit may be arranged
through the student's academic institution.

*DAAD Émigré Memorial German Internship Program* EMGIP (Émigré Memorial
German Internship Program) offers internship opportunities for US and
Canadian students in the German parliament, the /Bundestag/. The
internships are two months long in positions matching the student's
interest and experience. Interns will be placed with their preferred
/Fraktion/, /Ausschuss/, with individual members of the /Bundestag /and
their offices. In addition to contributing to the respective offices,
interns have the opportunity to study legislative and administrative
procedures in the German parliament.

*The Dell Thurmond Woodard Fellowship* which includes one *$5,000 grant
for one student each year*, is part of the Tisdale Fellowship program, a
summer internship available to undergraduate and graduate students. Any
student, undergraduate or graduate, who is interested in diversity and
ethics issues, and in learning about high-tech public policy issues, can
apply for this Fellowship. The Fellowship has two main elements:
(1) *Internship*: Fellows do an eight-week internship in the government
relations office of a leading high technology company or association.
In the recent past, fellows have interned at such companies as Agilent
Technologies, Hewlett-Packard, Philips Electronics and Infotech
Strategies as well as associations such as the Business Software Alliance.
2) *Issues Seminar*: The issues seminar is a weekly lunch hosted by
the different sponsoring companies and associations. Expert speakers
lead discussions of current public policy issues in Washington, and the
methods the high technology industry uses for effective advocacy. A new
lecture on diversity and ethics has been added to the Tisdale Fellows'
speaker series.
The Summer 2008 Fellowship runs from *June 16^th -- August 8^th , 2008*.
The goal of the Fellowship is to create a supportive and collegial
environment in which a new class of public policy professionals will be
mentored to help ensure that the high-tech industry continues to have
highly capable and well-trained individuals in both policy advocacy and
senior management positions.

/The Fels Instituute is joining Penn's annual Thanksgiving Day food
drive by collecting non-perishable food as well as turkeys from today
until Monday, November 19th. The drive will benefit Carroll Park
Community Council, SunnyCrest Family Services, and Concerned Parents.
