        _Internship Opportunities_

DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY
OFFICE OF INTELLIGENCE & ANALYSIS

SUMMER/FALL'08 INTERNSHIPS

- Salaried internships.
- Potential for internship renewal.
- Potential for non-competitive conversion to Federal career service.
- Part- or full-time schedule.
___________

The Department of Homeland Security's Office of Intelligence & Analysis
(DHS/I&A) provides invaluable work experience to qualified undergraduate and
graduate students in the Washington D.C. Metropolitan area who are
interested in applying their intellect and skills to safeguarding our
nation.

The United States faces grave challenges from terrorism, transnational
crime, extremism at home and abroad, and the proliferation of
non-conventional technologies and expertise. I&A interns work closely with
intelligence, operations, law enforcement, and infrastructure specialists -
within the Department; throughout the Intelligence Community; and across
federal, state, and local governments as well as the private sector -- to
share information, evaluate threats, and provide actionable assessments to
government and private officials charged with protecting our nation and its
citizenry.

Successfully meeting these challenges requires DHS/I&A to develop future
leaders with the expertise and tradecraft needed to satisfy a new and
unprecedented range of customers and requirements.

Overview: The Student Career Experience Program (SCEP) is a paid internship
program that integrates students' academic studies with federal work
experience and offers the potential for:
Internship renewal.
Non-competitive conversion into the Federal career service within 120
days of
completing 640 intern hours and following completion of educational
requirements. Internships are expected to start in June '08 (summer
program)
or September '08 (fall program) and run throughout the year.

Requirements:
Must be a United States citizen.
Must be enrolled -- or accepted for enrollment -- in an accredited
college/university or graduate school.
Must undergo and successfully complete a background investigation
for a security clearance if selected as a potential intern.
Must have strong critical thinking, research, writing, and
interpersonal skills as well as a healthy work ethic.
Must have a strong background - or be majoring in -- in social
science; political science; nuclear, chemical, or biological
science/engineering; area studies; English/journalism; foreign language;
public policy; government; or history.

To apply: Students must submit their applications during the period 19
November - 19 December 2007. Please email (1) a resume and cover letter,
(2) a certified copy of your transcript (or an enrollment acceptance letter
from an accredited institution), and (3) an academic writing sample (2-3
pages) to IA_recruiter at hq.dhs.gov <mailto:IA_recruiter at hq.dhs.gov>
