Harold Ford Jr. at Penn Model Congress Opening Ceremonies*
/Penn Model Congress is pleased to open its 2008 conference with a 
Keynote Address from *former Congressman and current Chairman of the 
Democratic Leadership Council, Harold Ford Jr. (D-TN).* Elected to the 
US House of Representatives when he was only 25, Ford served on the 
House Budget and Financial Services Committees, and was a prominent 
member of both the Blue Dog Coalition and the Congressional Black 
Caucus. In the 2006 Tennessee Senate race, Ford almost became the first 
African-American Senator from the South since Reconstruction, but lost 
by less than three percent of the vote to Republican, Bob Corker, a 
former Mayor of Chattanooga. Ford is also a Penn alumnus, and in 
addition to his work at the DLC, he currently serves as a senior policy 
advisor for Merrill Lynch and is a political contributor to Fox News./
